Answers to the questions we hear most often from contractors, engineers and project managers before placing a supply order.
What material types does Kapiel Aggregates Limited supply?
We supply three core material families: crushed rock for road base, sub-base and structural fill; gravel for drainage layers, pipe bedding and general fill; and sand for concrete, mortar and plaster. Within each family, material is screened into specific size grades to match the application it is being used for.
How is material graded and how do you check quality?
Crushed and quarried material is passed over vibrating screens fitted with mesh sized to the grade being produced, separating output into defined particle size classes. Stockpiles are kept segregated by grade, and loads are checked for contamination such as clay, organic matter or out-of-class oversize rock before dispatch. For contracts with a formal engineering specification, we work to the particle size distribution set out in that specification.
Can you supply material for a government or large road contract?
Yes. For road base, sub-base and structural fill contracts we work from the engineer's specified grading and coordinate production and delivery scheduling directly against the contractor's paving or compaction programme. How does delivery work for sites outside Port Vila?
Deliveries to outer islands are coordinated around vessel or barge scheduling in addition to road transport, so they require longer lead times than Port Vila deliveries. We work with the requesting contractor to set a realistic delivery window once transport arrangements are confirmed, rather than committing to a date before logistics are locked in.
What are typical lead times for large orders?
Standard grades held in stock can generally be loaded for Port Vila sites without a production wait. Larger tonnages or specific engineering grades not currently stockpiled require additional crushing and screening time, and outer island orders require transport lead time on top of that. We give a specific timeline once the grade, tonnage and delivery location for a project are known.
What safety and environmental practices are followed at the quarry site?
Extraction is worked in benches rather than undercut, to keep the working face stable. Stockpile areas are bunded and drainage is directed away from watercourses to limit sediment runoff, particularly during heavy rain. Dust suppression is used on haul roads and around the crushing plant, and vehicles and plant are maintained to limit fuel or oil leakage onto exposed ground.

Do you supply both small quantities and large bulk orders?
We work with builders on individual foundation or driveway jobs as well as with contractors on multi-week road and subdivision contracts. The main difference is planning lead time: small standard-grade loads can usually be arranged quickly from stock, while larger or specification-driven orders benefit from being scheduled in advance.
Can material specifications or samples be provided before an order is placed?
Yes. For projects with defined engineering requirements, discuss the specification directly with Andrew Thompson so the correct grade is confirmed before material is scheduled. This avoids mismatches between what a project's design calls for and what is delivered to site.
